Carney (Andrew) is born in Country Cavan, Ireland.

Andrew Carney he emigrates first to Prince Edward Island in 1816 and arrives in Boston in 1830, working initially as a tailor on North Street. With Jacob Sleeper, he subsequently founds Carney & Sleeper Clothiers, which becomes an extremely successful company after obtaining government contracts to produce military uniforms. Caney leaves the business in 1845, founds two banks, and purchases the former Howe Mansion in South Boston to create a hospital named in his honor in 1863.* He dies in 1864.
